Our #BartonExplorers are "Charting the Course" into week 8 #undertheBartonDome!

The magnet application for the 2026-2027 school year opens October 6th! We welcome prospective families to visit Barton during the school day, so you can gain a true feel for our culture. We will have two Open House opportunities, Tuesday, Oct. 7th or Wednesday, October 15th, 8:30-10:30, to see our #BartonExplorers in action! Personal tours can also be scheduled.

Our first quarter is rapidly drawing to a close! Here's a look as we "Chart the Course" for week 7 and beyond #RisingTogether #undertheBartonDome!

Mid-quarter progress reports will be distributed to students Monday during 8th period. This week's "Charting the Course" is posted on social media and our website. Reminder to join PTO so your student can participate in the "members only" skate party NEXT Monday, Sept. 22nd!

Parents of 8th and 9th graders are welcome to attend an info session with ASCTE (Cybersecurity School in Huntsville) being held at Barton Thursday evening at 6. Meeting is open to parents outside of Barton so feel free to share with parents of children who might have strong STEM interests for high school. There are many great local options as well, but ASCTE has become a great home to several former #BartonExplorers as well, and we want families to explore options and make the best choice for your child.

Charting the Course: Week 5 #undertheBartonDOME! 💙 🧭
#bartonexplorers #RisingTogether

Enjoy your long weekend, #BartonExplorers! Here’s a look at week 4 #undertheBartondome! **Remember to dress for success Tuesday. It’s Yearbook Picture Day! 💙

Today, our #BartonExplorers set sail into “uncharted waters” as we launched our 2025-2026 school-wide #PBL theme… #RisingTogether Navigating What’s Next.
Freshmen students shared our quarterly DOME quotes. Banners were unfurled to a countdown, music, confetti, and blue smoke. Following the banner reveal, our new Explorers opened miniature suitcases to learn their new Barton Order and family.
Back inside, our front lobby was transformed into a tropical cruising paradise. Meanwhile, all students participated in a PBL launch “regatta challenge” that allowed student teams to use their creativity and collaborative skills to build boats representing their team with a motto. Our teams added their boats to our wave walls, along with personal goals proclaiming how each student would help our school “rise together”.
We ended our day in Barton Order Families taking a “cruise” through the hallways to see one another’s ships and finishing the day with an anchor activity to create Order Family values that will anchor us throughout the year.
We had an incredible day filled with Discovery. Opportunity. Meaning. and Exploration … #undertheBartondome #bartonexplorers #RisingTogether Mobile County Public Schools

Navigating Barton Carline: 🧭
HOW DO I FIND ST. MICHAEL?!? 😱 Review this photo guide in preparation for Monday morning carline! Exercise patience, and please PLEASE wait until 7:00 am or after to enter morning carline and 2:00 pm or after for dismissal. Arriving exceptionally early creates unnecessary traffic congestion for our Downtown community. Also, avoid blocking intersections and driveways!

Barton Parents,
We are excited to set sail into our fifth year #undertheBartonDome! Back to School info is attached!

🎶School's Out for Summer ... but for those who like to plan ahead ... here's your summer reading, enrichment, school supply, and uniform info for the upcoming school year!

Our Middle School Scholars’ Bowl Team has had a remarkable year earning 1st place in our region, performing among the top in our state, and qualifying for Nationals! They recently returned from the NAQT Middle School Scholars’ Bowl National Championship in Chicago, Illinois! Our #bartonexplorers competed against teams from all over the country and even competed (and won) against a team from Korea. Our Barton Scholars represented us well by quickly adapting to a new style of play and ultimately earning four wins against national and international teams. In addition, due to the generous support of the Barton Academy Foundation, our students were able to spend a couple of extra days in Chicago to explore the city.

Our Barton V5 Team - “Measure Once, Cut Twice” - embodied our school's mission of exposing our students to “Advanced World Studies” as they competed in Dallas at the Vex V5 Worlds Middle School Competition. In their final qualification match, our #bartonexplorers were paired with a team from Jiangxi, China. They used Google translate to strategize. Congrats to Mrs. Bolton, Mrs. Leousis, and our entire Barton Robotics Team on a phenomenal year! A special thanks to the Barton Academy Foundation and Barton PTO for supporting our students as they represented us on the world stage.

Congratulations to Mrs. Nicholson who recently received exciting news concerning three professional development grant opportunities! This summer, Mrs. Nicholson will be participating in a two-day workshop on integrating the science of modern food production into her classroom - soil & water quality, high-tech science careers, biotechnology in agriculture, and biofuels. Mrs. Nicholson also received a scholarship to participate in the “Mountains to the Gulf” expedition, learning about the ecology of Alabama. Additionally, she received word that she has been selected to be an X-STEM Fellow 25-26 for the Gulf Coast.
