Parades begin rolling in Downtown Mobile Friday, January 30th! Barton Academy's location is "Mardi Gras central". This provides unique and special opportunities for our #BartonExplorers. Due to the uniqueness of our amazing location, please review our Mardi Gras reminders!
*Explorer Extended Care closes early on parade days. We would like all employees and Barton families away from campus by 5:00 p.m. Streets close early on parade days, so parking and travel can become complicated. Set up usually begins by 4:30, so please keep this in mind.
*Conti is a major staging area for emergency vehicles.
*Watch for NO PARKING 2 HOURS BEFORE PARADE signs. There are many located around Barton. Parking there could result in ticketing or towing.
*Car and pedestrian traffic increases during Mardi Gras season. Please exercise caution.
*The importance of following carline procedures becomes even more critical due to extra traffic in the area. Arrive no SOONER than 7:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. for carline so streets do not become needlessly congested. Please stay RIGHT on Michael and LEFT on Cedar leaving enough room for downtown traffic to pass.
*The parking lot across from Barton is for Barton "parker pass" tag holders ONLY. We are currently sharing the lot with Mobile Police, so please be cautious driving in and out of the lot.
*The parking lot across Government from Barton will have select opportunities for "paid parking" during some Mardi Gras parades. Follow Barton Academy PTO on social media for details.
*Our PTO Barton BOOM BOOM is scheduled for Thursday, February 12th! Check social media for details!
Happy Mardi Gras, y'all!

Barton Families & Community,
This week's "Charting the Course" is attached for reference, as well as the invitation for Thursday's "Barton Battleship Bash"! This is a school-wide event. Our building will close during celebration hours. Please be sure we receive a returned field trip form for EVERY STUDENT who plans to attend school on January 22nd.
Thursday is also "class picture day". Be sure students are in their correct uniform bottoms (belts included for those wearing belt loop uniform pants) and solid black shoes, socks, (and/or tights). Thanks to Barton PTO, EVERY STUDENT will receive a "100" celebration t-shirt. They will be provided Thursday morning and worn for pictures and the event.
Students will arrive on-site between 9:30-10:30 (busing from Barton to the Battleship). Parents and community members are asked to be on-site by 11:00. Our "celebration ceremony" will begin at 11:00, followed by picnic lunch on the grounds at 11:30. We are working to schedule one or two food trucks that will be on-site for the event for those who wish to purchase food. Parents are also welcome to bring a picnic lunch, and the school will have student bagged lunches available for students who prefer the cafeteria meal. Sign out sheets will be onsite for those who wish to take their student for an early dismissal from the Battleship after the event. Bookbags are NOT NEEDED Thursday. Students are responsible for any personal items they choose to bring. Leave valuables at home.
We are expecting this to be a unique and exciting celebration for our students and community! Barton 2025 freshmen (current sophomores) are also invited, and a school excuse will be provided to those former students who plan to attend. Sophomores should wear their current school uniform or a previous Barton shirt with uniform bottoms.
Please remember, if you choose to attend the event, Battleship parking is $5 so please plan accordingly. We hope to see you there as we CELEBRATE 100!
