Bio

I received my Bachelor of Elementary Education from Spring Hill College in 2000 and was awarded the Brother Claver Thomas, SC award upon graduation. I completed my Master of Elementary Education in 2006 from the University of South Alabama and hold an additional certification in Secondary Language Arts.

I am a National Board Certified Teacher in Literacy: Reading-Language Arts/Early and Middle Childhood. I have taught at several elementary schools in Mobile County over the past 20 years. Throughout my tenure, I have served as a 3rd, 4th, and 5th-grade teacher, writing coach, technology coach, Project-Based Learning (PBL) Instructional Coach, and ARI Reading Specialist. I was awarded Teacher of the Year at both Meadowlake Elementary and Mary B. Austin Elementary.

I served as vice president of the Metro-Mobile Literacy Council from 2018-2020 and have served as president since 2020. I have presented on best practices in both technology and language arts on several occasions, including AETC and ALA conferences.

I strive to teach every student to think creatively and critically. I'm passionate about empowering all students and providing them with the tools they need to lead successful and literate lives.

I am thrilled to be part of the Explorer family at Barton Academy!
